The Christmas TAG | Blogmas Day 23

Saturday, December 23, 2017

I can't believe it's the 23rd of December already! One day to go til Christmas Eve, delicious food and opening pressies underneath the tree! I can't wait! So for today I thought I'd do a little tag, that I've seen doing the rounds in the blogosphere for a while now. I recently read Maisie's answers to these questions - I'll link her post here for you guys, make sure you check out her blog lovemaisie.com too - and really fancied going through these questions myself. So here you go :-)

What's your favourite Christmas movie?

Love actually, without a doubt! I said this before and I stick with it, it is the best effing Christmas movie out there! I love a bit of the original Bridget Jones for Christmas too and obviously Home Alone comes high on the list too, but it ain't Christmas until I've watched Love actually.

Have you ever had a white Christmas?

Definitely!  Not had snow for Christmas for a while though. But when I was little I definitely remember it snowing on the big day. For a while this year it looked really good snow wise as throughout December we had lots and lots of snow but just like always it has already melted away and there probably won't be any new one until the new year so...

Where do you usually spend your holidays?

I always go round my mum's place on Christmas Eve where we open each other's presents then make our way over to my aunt's place who lives close by for food and more pressies. My grandma and other aunt are usually there as well so it's a big family party really :-) Christmas means all the gingerbread liqueurs and eggnogs so on Christmas Day we sleep in late, watch old fairytales on TV and have brunch with lots of cheese and fish and all the good things! This year I will host my first Christmas lunch at my place on Boxing Day and I'm well excited for it!

What's your favourite Christmas song?

That is so hard to say. I'm definitely going with the classics here. It ain't Christmas until Mariah has sung 'All I want for Christmas'. I also love the Pogues' 'Fairytale of New York' for something a little less sickly sweet haha.

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

All of them! In Germany we traditionally celebrate Christmas on the 24th of December and presents will be opened after a festive dinner and some wine. It's fun now but can be really hard as a kid to wait around all day til it's fiiiiinally time for the Christkind to arrive and drop the presents under the tree! :-)

Can you name all of the reindeer?

Well there's Rudolph.. so.. absolutely not!

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

Well to be honest I'm just looking forward to the whole thing. Just being with family like every year, enjoying good food, giving and receiving presents the lot.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

REAL! There is no way I would put up a fake tree. Ever.

What's your favourite holiday food/treat/sweet?

Just all the homemade biscuits, gingerbread and most of all marzipan potatoes.. mmmmmhhh!

Be honest. Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?

Both! I love seeing the reaction to the presents I got my friends and family, I think that's something really special! But I'm just as excited to see what people have got me so really it's a draw and that's the nice thing about Christmas :-)

What's the best Christmas present you've ever received?

That's so hard to say! I love the stoneware teapot and little milk jug my mum got me last year, I'm so so in love with it still! But there were many lovely presents along the way. Often times it's the smaller things rather than the big presents!

What's your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I'm thinking a little cabin in the English countryside à la Kate Winslet's cabin in The Holiday. Something cosy and remote, with all my loved ones and all the snuggly knitwear! But quite contrary to the remote cabin I've also always dreamt of visiting New York for the holiday season!

Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I think I ain't half bad! But decide for yourself, I've put up some of my gift wrapping ideas for the season on the blog a couple of days ago. You can find that here.

What's your most memorable Christmas memory?

So many lovely memories from my childhood come to mind but also the one Christmas I haven't actually spent at home with my family but instead in London with my friends and lovely host family some 7 years ago. Oh ma gaaaawd, where did the time goooo?!

What made you realise the truth about Christmas?

I can't remember. But I make a mental note to ask my mum about this on Christmas Eve, maybe she remembers telling me.. haha.

What makes the holidays special for you?

The quiet and calm of the three days spent away from work, uni or school. Not worrying too much about anything but being with your loved ones and stuffing your face with Christmas food. Because it's a truth universally acknowledged that calories don't exist in the festive season, eh?

I tag all of you who feel like doing this too, to follow along and answer the questions above. If you do, or indeed already did, leave me a link to your blogs below :-) Also I have done quite a similar tag last year and looking back at how I answered many of the same questions then cracks me up haha. You can find that here if you're interested ;-)

Lots of Love,
Jess xx
