My Favourite Moments of 2017 | Blogmas Day 16

Saturday, December 16, 2017

I wanted to do a kind of review of this year, but I wanted to concentrate only on the good things and the moments to remember, the happy times. So I thought what better way then to compile a little list of my favourite moments of this year, in chronological order!

A wintery walk in the Starnberg countryside

Early this year when everything was covered in lots and lots of snow my friend Christine and I made our way out of Munich, to enjoy the calm of the Starnberg countryside. We visited the stable where Christine's horse Evita is living with lots of other horses. We took Evita out for a long walk through the snow covered forest, had a good old natter about life as a twenty something and Munich in general and just took a little breather from everything. I like remembering that day as it felt very special.  You can see all my photos from our day out here.

Having my friend Audrey over from Ireland

In February my friend Audrey came to visit for a week. We had the best time chatting and shopping and eating haha. We went to the cinema, took a one day trip to Nuremberg and just generally enjoyed life. I still wish I could have taken the whole week off work though..

Planning my best friends' bachelorette parties

As both my best friends got married this year, I was on double maid of honour duty! It was stressful planning two hen dos I'm not gonna lie but I also enjoyed trying to plan the perfect days for them. I also think it all worked out quite well in the end, even though there were a couple of hiccups on the way. And who would've thought I would ever pole dance?! Haha :-)

Going to Ireland for the first time

This was a really big deal for me this year! I've been wanting to visit my friend Audrey over in Cork for years but it just never worked out! There was either no time or no money for a trip there and so when I was finally able to book this trip - and for my birthday week too! - I was so so happy! And it was everything I thought it would be! Beautiful coastlines, rough cliffs, colourful sea side towns, yummy food, good chats and just generally happy times. I'm so happy it finally worked out and I feel like a reunion needs to happen soon! :-) If you want to see pictures from my trip and everything I got up to, check out my Ireland Diaries here.

Quitting my old job

I mentioned this before in a post but I didn't feel very happy in my job in Munich. I didn't like what I was doing and I didn't like the organisation I was working for for many reasons. So when I finally mustered up the courage to look for another job and quit the old one it felt SO GOOD! It was like such a weight lifted off my shoulders as I knew that not only that job was a thing of the past but also living in that shitty old one bedroom apartment and Munich in general. I've never looked back since :-)

My best friends' weddings

As I said before, both of my best friends got married this year. Both days were amazing! Two very different set ups, both equally fun. Two reasons to get new dresses too, what's not to love? I'm very happy for both of them having found such lovely husbands for themselves :-)

Moving into my new flat

Fiiiiinally! I moved into a proper flat late in May of 2017 shortly before starting my new job in Nuremberg. I love all the space I have now and I still enjoy getting new bits and bobs for around the house, some new pieces of furniture here and there. I'm far from finished with it but I just love making it my own, step by step.

Weekend trips with the bestie

In August, I spent a little elongated weekend in Dresden with my best friend. We took the coach up there on what was sure one of the hottest and most humid weekends of the year and did some sight seeing, cycling along the Elbe and eating our way around the capital of Saxony. We had a lovely time even though the weather really tired us out (or maybe it was our age and the fact that we're basically grannies.. who knows..). You can see everything we got up to in my Dresden Diary.

Making new friends

Starting a new job meant meeting quite a few new people. And luckily I made some great friends along the way too! I'm so happy we somehow ended up in the same place at the same time because it feels a bit like we were meant to meet! Bit dramatic? Maybe, but true too! :-)

Spending a week in London

In November I finally managed to make some time for the obligatory at least once yearly visit to London. It was cold but mostly sunny , the Christmas lights were up but not yet switched on and I made the most of the few days I had by going shopping, eating out in my favourite places and walking lots and lots through my favourite parts of town. I spent the week with my friend Rebecca after not having seen her in over a year, so it was nice to catch up and spend some quality time. Going to London always feels like coming home to me and I'm always so happy whenever I get to be there.

Seeing Mando Diao live in Munich

In November I also went to see one of my all time favourite bands live for the first time! I was sooo obsessed with Swedish band Mando Diao when I was in my teens and I still love their music now. It was amazing to finally get to see them live in Munich a couple of weeks ago! I had the best time and I've been listening to all the albums on repeat ever since.

Yep, I think this is my complete list of highlights so far this year! Not a bad year was it?  How about you? What were your favourite moments of 2017? Your milestones? Leave me a comment and let me know :-)

Lots of Love,
Jess xx
