My March in Retrospect

Thursday, March 31, 2016

It's time for my monthly recap again! March wasn't all I was hoping for. In my head I was riding my bike along long winding country roads surrounded by blossoming trees, my braided hair playing in the wind and - well I'm gonna stop right there cause it didn't happen. There's no such thing as blossoming trees, the winding country roads are ruined by winter and full of puddles and well to tell you the truth I don't even have a bike or any talent when it comes to braiding hair.. but one can dream right? But let's focus on what actually happened last month shall we :-)

I've been spending a lot of time working on my blog these last couple of weeks. I've published more posts in March than I've done in a long time which I feel really proud of! I started a little blog planner which massively helped with getting shiz done around here but also I've just been in a real good place blogging wise so no blogger's block or demotivation was keeping me from writing and taking photos and making this into a blog I'm proud to call mine again. I've also been wanting to redesign this page for soooooo long and finally got round to choosing a template I love and actually implement it! I love the new look and I hope you do too. Also that long outdated header of mine FINALLY cleared the space for a new one that I find suits me and this blog's content much better than that old one. So YAY, it was a good blog month all round :-)

In the beginning of the month me and a few friends went on a little road trip over to Ikea. I don't know what it is about Swedish furniture shops but visiting them just makes me happy. I did get a couple of things I didn't really need but also left with a bunch of clothes hangers that had been on my actual shopping list - so, success haha. The highlight though was getting this absolute beauty of a plant called a bromeliad, which obviously also features in this month's favourites. I simply love it! It brightens up my room and adds a nice touch of 'jungle' to my already plant-heavy room. What can I say, I'm in love. Of course we didn't just leave there though, having a cheeky hotdog before making our way back home is like an Ikea ritual that has to be taken seriously!

With more time on my hands this month I finally found myself in the right mindset to start writing again. I always loved writing. I remember as a child typing up little stories on my mum's old typewriter, then sticking the pages together to make it look like an actual book with both sides of the page covered in print. I put enormous effort into crafting title pages and "binding" all of the pages into a book and then proudly presented it to my family feeling like an accomplished writer just waiting for the publishing houses of the world to beg me to let them publish my stories. Well, growing up I spent less and less time writing, focusing on the 'important' things like school and stuff while still not giving it up completely as I've been writing for the school newspaper and that. Today I feel like writing is what I really love doing and therefore I just dedicate more time to it and it feels good to be typing up thoughts and stories again even though I do miss the old typewriter from time to time.

On the topic of writing: something else that made me happy to see was J. K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series as well as the Cormoran Strike novels (under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith), publishing two rejection letter she received as R. Galbraith when she first send her manuscript of 'The Cuckoo's Calling' to publishing houses. Check them out on Rowling's Twitter here.

I've also been to the cinema this month watching 'Der geilste Tag', my German readers will be familiar with it. The story follows two terminally ill men trying to make the most of the time they have left. It sounds very dramatic but it's actually a comedy and a really good one at that! While it's funny (and at times sad) to watch it also made me think.. about all the things we worry about day in day out that really aren't that important at all once we look at the bigger picture. It made me think that I should live a little more, do more things that make me happy rather than just pay my bills or are generally expected of me. And it reminded me that life is short so I should spend less time worrying and more time living my best life (cheesy yes, but true too! ;-) ).

Another thing I loved in March was the long Easter bank holiday weekend! It really makes you realise what's important in life: weekends! :-) I've spent my time relaxing with a good book drinking lots of tea, stuffing my face with chocolate eggs and carrot cake and seeing all of the family. We even had some unexpected moments of sunshine on Monday so I made sure I got out and took my DSLR with me!

So, this was a bit of a personal and rambly one eh? But I love typing these, sharing a bit about my month and what I've been up to with you guys. I hope you like them too :-) Leave me a comment and let me know how you spent the month!

Lots of Love,
Jess xx
