May Favourites | 2016

Sunday, May 29, 2016

So that's a wrap on May then. I found quite a few new (and rediscovered some old) things I love this month and it's time to share them with you once more. Many of these are more kind of lifestyle-y favourites but there's the odd bit of beauty thrown in for good measure (if you spend that much money on makeup and skin care every month you're bound to find some favourites there eh?) So let's get into it.

 RTÉ's Love/Hate on Netflix

I've been having trouble sleeping lately so many late nights were spent reading or scrolling through Netflix. On one of those occasions I came across Love/Hate, which is an Irish drama series featuring Robert Sheehan (admittedly probably the reason why I decided to give it a go in the first place..), set in Dublin. As Netflix describes it only as 'Irish drama series' I had no idea what to expect of it but I was hooked right away. It's not exactly a nice, comforting thing to watch as it's about gangs fighting each other in the streets of Dublin. There's drugs and there's guns and there's murder and there's a lot of sadness and hopelessness as well, yet I still enjoyed it! There's only two seasons up on Netflix at the moment, which sucks considering that there's five seasons that were already broadcast and a sixth in the making. But hey ho, it'll come to Netflix eventually I guess.

Snapchat

I finally got Snapchat! I know I'm incredibly late to the party here but up until quite recently I was sure I really didn't need it at all. And to be honest, I was probably right but once I got it I just loved it. I spend probably a little too much time on there watching people's snaps but it's a great way to procrastinate! I'm slowly getting into snapping myself and I'm loving how easy it is to share things without the pressure of it having to look Instagram-pretty! If you want you can add me by looking for 'jessretrospect', come and say hi :-)

Arla Skyr

I LOVE this yogurt! Apparently it's an old Icelandic recipe and has been eaten there for centuries already. I think it was about a year ago that Arla introduced it into German supermarkets and I remember trying it then and thinking it was pretty good then forgetting all about it with my move to London. Well, I recently rediscovered it and fell back in love! There's a couple of different flavours and I would probably pick blueberry as my favourite. What's great about these is that they are very low in fat yet high in protein. What's not to love?

The Michalak's Iceland vlog

If you haven't seen it already, or worse even don't know who the hell I'm talking about then I suggest you head over to the Michalak's YouTube channel right after reading this and watch their Iceland vlog! I was close to tears it's that beautiful! It also made me want to book a flight to Iceland right away, which has always been on my travel bucket list but now just went up a few places into my top 5! It's so beautifully shot and edited and everything about it is just WOW. I promise you won't regret spending that half an hour watching it ;-)

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Oh My God! I wanted to read this book for the longest time but never quite got round to it even though I heard so many people say good things about it. Well I finally picked it up this month and what can I say, three evenings of reading and I had finished it. I would probably have been quicker even but I wanted it to last forever. I desperately wanted to read it before the film comes out and was worried I might not be able to finish it before but in hindsight that was a ridiculous thing to worry about haha! The story is beautiful, funny and sad at the exact same time - a weeper as Jojo Moyes calls it herself. And that's what it is, I balled my eyes out several time while reading this and even though I expected it to end just as it did I still cried soooo much. Sometimes I guess that's just what we need, seeing that life could be much worse than our tiny problems and inconveniences. I for one can't wait for the movie now!

My brand new bike

You've probably seen all about it already if you read this post here, but in case you haven't (and because I like showing it off), here's it again! Haha, I'm in love, I think it's the prettiest bike ever and it makes getting to a from work so much less of a hassle!

Eau de Jardin by Clarins

This is basically summer in a bottle. It smells divine! I've been writing a whole blog post about it when I first got it last year and the love story continues. Now that the weather's finally nice and summery I can't stop myself from wearing it literally every day and for every occasion regardless of the amount of perfumes I own (and that's quite a few I tell you). If you're in the market for a floral summery scent then I would highly recommend giving this a spritz!

Sunday Brunch eyeshadow by Sephora

I'm really into golden eyeshadows recently. This is one I picked up at Sephora in Verona a while back and only just rediscovered it in my makeup stash. It's a shimmery eyeshadow, which is not usually what I go for, but it's simply gorgeous and I feel like a boho goddess wearing it. For a night out, I often pair it with even more shimmer and apply some glittery shadow on top like Sephora's 'Hollywood's calling'.

So these are all of my May favourites. What have you been loving this month? Leave me a comment and let me know :)

Lots of Love,
Jess xx
