My Live Interview at the BBC | London Life

Thursday, January 14, 2016

They say you should do one thing everyday that scares you, that you should step out of your comfort zone ever so often. Well, this for me was as far out of my comfort zone as can be. In late October 2015 I was on BBC live TV being asked questions about my experience with purchasing tickets for the 2016 West End play 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'. I know.. HOW did this even happen right?!

Well I'm a massive Potterhead (there's something you might not yet know about me.. ) and when I heard that there would be a part eight to the story of Harry and his friends I just knew there was no way I was gonna miss it! This eighth installment of Harry Potter is coming to us in the form of a play in London's West End in the summer of 2016. So in late October 2015 it was finally the day where you could purchase tickets to the play (or rather playS as it's a two part show) if you signed up for priority booking earlier. Long story short, I spent absolute ages in front of my computer trying to get tickets that the site claimed were available never actually being able to put them in my shopping basket though. After a certain time I got kicked out from the website and couldn't access it anymore. FRUSTRATING. IMPOSSIBLE. But what do us bloggers like to do in moments like these? Of course we have a little rant on twitter! That being said I literally only tweeted this:

No hashtags, no nothing, I was way too upset to think about any of that. Nevertheless only a couple hours later I was contacted by a woman working for the BBC asking me if I would be interested to speak about my experience on morning TV at BBC2 the following day. My first reaction was obviously NO WAY! but then I thought about it and thought WHY THE HELL NOT! Do something that scares you. And so I heard myself telling that woman that I would love to go on live TV and speak about my experience.

I was soooooo nervous but it was such a cool experience. Seeing all the backstage work going on and the entire set (which is not quite what you see on TV) of the Victoria Derbyshire programme. It was in no way as bad as I thought it would be, I didn't turn bright read, I spoke understandable English no mumbling or forgetting words haha and all in all it was quite good to be there :-) One thing though - if you're ever in the same situation, DON'T WEAR A DRESS because there will be somebody trying to get a microphone on you and there's a lot of stripping involved in this when you do wear a dress (yes I am speaking from experience.....)

What's more, not only did I feel great for doing something so out of my comfort zone, I also got contacted by the people putting on the play and got the chance to get my hands on a ticket after all! So on the 18th of June I will be seeing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre and I cannot wait!

Did you ever do something that out of your comfort zone? What was it? And who else is going to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in London this year? Let me know if you are :-)

Lots of Love,
Jess xx
