Top 10 Chick Flicks | Girls' Night In

Sunday, July 10, 2016

I love a good chick flick! Any rom-com or tear jerking love story will do. And the absolute best thing is watching a good old girly movie with your girlfriends - box of tissues to hand. So I thought I'd compile a list of my favourite romantic movies/ chick flicks to watch with your besties, in case you're planning a movie night in soon and need some recommendations :)

1. Bridget Jones

One of my absolute all time favourites! I watch both parts at least once a year (with a preference for part one). It's funny, it's romantic and it's set in London! What's not to love? It surely ticks all the boxes for me. And really, is there one of us who can't identify with Bridget? I don't think so!

2. One Day

I loved reading the book and I loved watching the film! It's is so so funny and so so sad all at the same time I can't even.. If you watch this with your girls keep the tissues near.

3. Clueless

Absolute classic! I don't even know how many times I've seen this growing up! I loved it when I was much younger and I still love it now. It always made me wish I could attend an American highschool though haha.

4. The Notebook

Ahem.. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.. need I say more?! This is such a lovely film! I don't think there's another film in this list, that's even remotely as tear jerkingly romantic as this one! A southern love story that you'll love!

5. He's just not that into you

Because really this film is good advice! It kinda mocks how us ladies often make excuses for men when they don't text or call or whatnot. Like 'Oh maybe he's lost his phone?' No he has not, he's just not that into you, if he were he'd find a way to get in touch. It's funny to watch and just so, so close to reality. I mean I sure as hell made excuses like that before and I think many of you have been there too.

6. Notting Hill

Oldie but goldie. 90s Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts are my faves! Set in beautiful West London, the owner of a tiny little bookshop falls in love with a Hollywood star. The odds obviously aren't in their favour but well.. if it's true love..?

7. Pretty Woman

While on the topic of Julia Roberts.. Pretty Woman is another must see film! It's a kinda modern day Cinderella story that you can't not fall in love with. Richard Gere and Julia Roberts play the unlikely couple in this 90s classic!

8. Breakfast at Tiffany's

Of course I couldn't do a list like this without Audrey Hepburn in it. My favourite Hepburn movie will forever be Breakfast at Tiffany's. I like her weird and kinda crazy character in this. It's a love story yes, but it's got more to it than that.

9. Dirty Dancing

80s classic! Everybody should have seen this movie at least once in their lifetime. It's a holiday love story, there's lots of dancing (clue is in the title.. haha) and there's many a obstacle in the way of the two lovers. I've seen it so many times I can't even carry a watermelon without thinking of it haha.

10. Doctor's Diary

Doctor's Diary is a German television series following Gretchen Haase, studying to become a surgeon while struggling with her weight and her life in general. Falling in love with not one, but several men during the three seasons. It's a bit Bridget Jones like not gonna lie, but seeing as that made number one I don't think that's a bad thing at all! I love this series and I keep rewatching it not least because of Dr. Marc Meyer haha. If you can, you should watch it. I know it's been translated into a few other languages too so have a look if you can find it where you are :)

So that's it, a quick look at my top 10 girly movies to watch at your next girls' night in :) I hope you could find some inspiration. What are your favourite chick flicks? What did I miss? Leave me a comment and let me know :)

Lots of Love,
Jess xx
