Homemade Quinoa Crisps | The Healthy Life

Tuesday, May 03, 2016

You know when you're trying to be really healthy and all of a sudden there's this MEGA craving for fast food, chocolate and crisps (and basically everything else that isn't all that good for you). You do right? I knew I couldn't be the only one! I recently found a way to satisfy that craving for salty, crunchy things with quinoa crisps (no it's not the same as Walker's ready salted but it does the trick!). But I just found them to be really really pricey so I thought why not make some myself. I googled and worked my way through a few recipes until I found a way to make them that is both easy and yummy. So for any of you who are in the market for a healthy homemade snack, here's my quinoa crisps recipe:

You'll need:

200g quinoa
170ml water
chili flakes
salt & pepper

Method:

Preheat your oven to 225°C.
Wash your quinoa thoroughly for several minutes (if you don't, you might end up with really bitter crisps - trust me I know what I'm talking about), get rid of the excess water and put the grains in a pan on medium heat and toast until you start to smell the quinoa.
Then pop your quinoa and the water into a blender and blend til you've got a smooth, kind of disgusting looking grayish paste. That paste goes onto a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper. Spread it out so it's about half a centimetre thick then season it with salt, pepper and some chili flakes before putting it in the oven for about 10 minutes. Take it out and let it cool for a while before cutting it in little squares. After that it will need another 5- 10 minutes in the oven. They're ready when they are nicely browned on top.

I used a 3 colour quinoa blend so yours might look much lighter if you used regular quinoa.

That's all there is to do! Told you: easy! Now there's nothing holding you back from trying this yourself is there? I love dipping these in guacamole but you can obviously whip up any dip you fancy. Let me know if you try them at home and tell me what you thought in the comments :)

Lots of Love,
Jess xx
