French Crêpes | Pancake Day 2016

Tuesday, February 09, 2016

Happy Pancake Day lovelies! This is actually already the third Pancake Day post on this blog (can you believe it!?). The first ever post that went live on this blog was a Shrove Tuesday post two years ago! Oh boy how time flies! If you are interested to see my previous recipes you can click here for last year's fluffy American style pancakes and here for my cringe worthy first post :) But enough of all that - this year I decided to go all French and relive my Parisian adventures with my favourite french food: crêpes!

For the batter you'll need:

250g plain flour
~70g sugar
pinch of salt
4 eggs
250ml milk
250ml mineral water
2 tbsp oil (preferably not olive oil as that's got too much of a recognisable taste)

[this makes about 8 crepes]

From here it's easy. Mix the flour, sugar, salt and eggs together than slowly add the milk and water to the mixture until you've got a smooth lump-free rather liquid pancake batter. Leave the batter for about half an hour to an hour before then adding the oil. Your pancake mix is now ready to go in the pan. Use the biggest pan you can find - we are looking to get these incredibly thin after all. One scoop should do the trick. Before you fold them into their classic triangle shape, fill them with whatever tickles you fancy!

The classic: cinnamon & sugar

French Favourite: crêpe au citron sucré

Et voilà, des crêpes parfait! :-) I hope you can give these a go this Pancake Day (or really any other day.. let's not restrict our pancake lovin' to one day a year haha!). Do you like crêpes? Were you fortunate enough to taste the real deal in the streets of Paris yet? Let me know in the comments below :-)

Everybody's darling: nutella & banana

Lots of Love,
Jess xx

  4. I adore pancakes! Although I'm more partial to the fluffy American ones. I love to top them with banana and maple syrup. We probably have pancakes about 10 times a year, it's my go to special occasion food haha - or lazy day food, or just I really fancy pancakes food.
