My September in Retrospect | 2016

Thursday, October 20, 2016

Wow, I’ve really been absent from this blog for all of September AND most of October haven’t I?! But what with starting a new job and moving to a new city and the consequent lack of internet in my flat ever since (I’m trying reeeaaally hard not to complain about certain internet providers here.. I’m looking at you especially Telecom!) I just didn’t have a chance to post. I missed it though, as there’s so much to tell you guys about! So let's recap September:

At the beginning of the month, I started packing my life into boxes. Oh boy, it was a task! I was actually surprised by the sheer amount of STUFF I own. It’s literally still boggling my mind how all of that fitted into my tiny little bedroom! I didn’t like the whole packing and moving process one bit. If you like me feel overwhelmed by having to pack a suitcase for a holiday away, you can probably relate how daunting this task was! I was miserable most days, moaning about the general unfairness of having to move away, while at the same time I was quite excited about the new start. So yeah the first couple of weeks in September weren’t my finest, but then came moving day!

I moved to Munich on September 10th! It was a hot summer’s day, exactly what you don’t want if you’re lugging several pieces of furniture as well as a gazillion boxes up and down a few flights of stairs! We started driving south in the morning and spent all day putting up my furniture, cleaning and unpacking boxes. And it was still nowhere near finished when my family drove back home late that night and I was left to my own devices. To tell you the truth it’s still not “finished” as such, as there’s so many things I need and want to get for my flat, shelves that need to be put up etc etc. It’s a work in progress – and will be for a while!

By now, it’s been three weeks since I started my new job and I really like my new work environment and all of my new colleagues even though it really really is a lot to take in information wise, and most days I feel completely overwhelmed with all there is to do and understand. But I’m sure it’ll get better as the weeks go by and eventually I will actually be able to finish a task without having to ask for help somewhere along the way haha!

I feel like such a grown up with my proper full time HR job, my own flat and all the other little adult-y things. I mean I even get excited about the weekly food shop (even though Munich’s prices for food – as well as everything else – still occasionally bring a tear to my eyes!). I enjoy going home for the weekends, seeing my friends and family and ‘being in the country’ as I keep saying. I’m still in the process of finding my way around Munich and haven’t yet found enough ‘nature’ or even a bloody park (that I don’t need to get on the underground for) to go for a quick run. But finger’s crossed I’ll come across one soon as I’d love to get back into running (once that bloody cold has buggered off!)

Something else happened. Something I wouldn’t have thought was possible. Yes, I went to Oktoberfest!! Can you believe it?! After years and years of living abroad and being asked about Oktoberfest whenever I admitted to being German and consequently having to say that I’ve never been and don’t intend to ever go, I finally made it there. It was practically exactly how I thought it would be: NOT MY THING. But I think I can cross it off my bucket list now so that’s something.

Only a week into my new job, we all went on a work trip to the Alps. It was gorgeous! We went to Partnachklamm, which is a massive gorge near Garmisch-Partenkrichen. It was simply stunning. I will post lots of photos in a special post about it, but it was definitely another September highlight!

Yeah I think that’s all the big changes and little adventures that September brought to my life. It was one exciting month that’s for sure! What did you get up to in September? I’d love to hear so leave me a comment
:)

Lots of Love,
Jess xx

  1. Haha I also don't think Oktoberfest would be my thing. I never joined any celebrations but it's not really on my list or anything. But loved reading on how your month went! Yay on the new job and on doing adult-y things. (I'm not quite there yet but reading through your post made me excited for them, as well, haha!)
    Have a nice week x
